As some of you guys might know, Mr. Boykin, the substitute art teacher for Ms. Schafer, will soon be leaving West! To say goodbye to him and maintain his place in this school, we interviewed Mr. Boykin about his thoughts on his time here at CMS West. 1. Why did you become a teacher? After graduating from college, Mr. Boykin decided to take on substitute teaching for a change and he fell in LOVE with it! From being placed in front of the classroom and explaining what you have to do for an assignment to small chitters that could be heard from the children as they were working, he loves every bit of it! 2. What was something that you enjoyed while teaching art here? Mr. Boykin said that something he enjoyed while he was teaching art was getting to know his students and forming personal bonds with them. He enjoyed working with children. Every kid has a talent and it’s an art teacher’s job to help them discover it! He also enjoyed building 3D figures as one of his projects. Teaching art was a new experience for him since he usually taught subjects like science to students. 3. How did you feel about being assigned to teaching art for the first time? Mr. Boykin decided to take a risk with this job and choose art! He’s been a science teacher for as long as he can remember, so he wanted to try something new for a change! When asked about whether he would be an art educator again, Mr. Boykin said, “Of course! I'd love to! Attempting new things is my favorite thing!” Know that we will miss our faithful, sweet, and hilarious art teacher Mr. Boykin, but we will have our very own outstanding art educator Mrs. Schafer to come join us and continue to teach us more about art! As a wise man once said, “Every new beginning comes from another’s end.”
